Eating out for Mexican usually fall into three categories. The authentic home cooks, the chains and then the ‘trendies’. Neither means some are better than others, it’s just that they bring different things to the table.
Today’s venue is the latter of those three at the trendy Taqueria in Notting Hill.
About a 10-minute stroll from the famous Portobello road is where you’ll this Mexican eatery.
Think casual street food meets Notting Hill and you’re pretty much there.
The impressive menu is packed full of tacos, tostadas, and tequila, with loads of options for the meat lover, fish enthusiast or veggie in you. Not forgetting those who like it hot and spicy (Oh, matron!)
You can get bits and dips to start.
Plenty of quac, deep fried oysters as well as crunchy tostadas.
Or jump straight to main with some top tacos.
Made fresh in house (yes, the tortilla base too), loaded with toppings and served in twos.
There’s fish options of grilled prawns or deep fried pollock with chipotle mayo.
The pollack ones being described as some of the best tacos around on the net. If google says it then you know it’s true.
Meaty dishes of charcoal grilled chicken or pineapple pork.
As well as an UHMAZING veggie option of sweet fried plantain, crema and more chipotle salsa.
While at a lot of Mexicans you’ll get a plate loaded from top to bottom with beans, meat and rice (which of course is always a good idea) Taqueria isn’t like that. In a good way that is.
Portions have been scrutinised in a few online write ups, but if you remember this isn’t a cheap and cheerful street food stall, it’s a trendy place in West London, all of the above should make sense.
In a nutshell, the vibe is sharing is caring, the food will hit all the right buttons and everything is vibrant and colourful. Not to mention a great for the vegetarians! Taquerias the kind of place you go with people who don’t mind getting stuck in, not scared of messy hands and up for a margarita or two. Also, the ones who also don’t mind a bit of spice in their life.
Those are the best type of people. 🙂
